Getting it Right

Colin Powell's former Chief of Staff speaks out.

Fascinating, brilliant stuff.

Maybe some commentary soon.

I noticed that this speech was mentioned twice in this past Sunday's Times. Both references (one on the front page, and one in Rich's Op-Ed column) mentioned the "Cheney Rumsfeld Cabal".

But neither piece mentioned what to me was the most interesting part: when Wilkerson hints at revolution:

"[If] something comes along that is truly serious, truly serious, something like a nuclear weapon going off in a major American city, or something like a major pandemic, you are going to see the ineptitude of this government in a way that will take you back to the Declaration of Independence. Read it some time again.

I just use it for a tutoring class for my students in the District of Columbia. Forced me to read it really closely because we're doing metaphors and similes and antonyms and synonyms and so we'reā€¦read in there what the founders say in a very different language than we use today. Read in there what they say about the necessity of people to [UI background voice] tyranny or to throw off ineptitude or to throw off that which is not doing what the people want it to do."

This coming from a former member of the administration? Yowzah.
